Toulouse has always had a history of aviation

St Exupéry and Mermoz flew out of Toulouse on their pioneering flight across Africa and the Atlantic in the 1920’s. Today, it is a world leader in the aviation industry - the driving force behind Airbus and the Ariane space rocket programmes. Under the guidance of the French state, it has become a think-tank of High Tech and a European metropolis, which offers the modern comfort and conveniences of a thoroughly modern city.

However, it is the charm of the pink brick, the quiet narrow streets of the historic center, and the atmosphere created by the Garonne River and the Canal du Midi t that wind through the city, that most attract the tourists who find their way here. Refreshingly provincial, without the hype and artificial perfection of some French tourist attractions, Toulouse provides an unassuming and authentic introduction to the French Way of Life.

Art, music, theatre, museums, churches and fountains provide an historical backdrop to contemporary happenings, modern boutiques, animated open markets, parks and gardens and excellent restaurants.

You will discover the historical vestiges and appreciate the architectural treasures of convents and of gorgeous mansions from the glorious period in the 15th and 16th centuries when the woad-dye trade made Toulouse one of the richest towns in Southern Europe.

Barcelona is only a 3 hour drive on the highway. The beautiful beaches on the West coast around Biarritz and on the Mediterranean are exquisite during the summer. You also have easy access to the Pyrénées ski resorts or the surrounding valleys where you will discover charming French villages. If you wish to travel farther, it’s international airport in Blagnac offers links to the rest of Europe and the World.
